3 Things I Wish I Knew About Microblading

Microblading is one of the most popular brow treatments of 2020 and 2021, and it's certainly not going anywhere anytime soon. Low maintenance and with hugely beneficial results, you can go from having very sparse eyebrows to full-looking brows that can last up to 18 months!

How does microblading work?

Microblading is a treatment completed by our in-house microblading-qualified artists, who applies coloured pigment to the brow area using a fine bladed hand tool. Many people ask if it is the same as having tattooed brows - it is technically similar, however it is semi-permanent and the ink does not cut as deep. Providing. a fine hair-stroke effect, microbladed brows result in a soft, natural brow, which lasts for up to 18 months.

Sounds like the dream, right?! You can see why microblading is such a popular treatment to have. However, we wanted to clear up some of the more unknown facts about microblading, to help you better understand the treatment and how your hair will respond. Here are some of the common microblading myths - debunked!

1. Microblading won’t stop your brow hair growing

A common misconception is that microblading stops your brow hairs regrowing. This is a myth, in fact, it can actually stimulate hair growth. For the most part, this is positive; creating a fuller look, something lots of us are trying to achieve after the 90s overplucking era!

2. You'll need to have a touch-up

Microblading isn’t a one-step process. At the first appointment, we will discuss your brow shape, the look you wish to achieve, colour, shape, density, etc. Next, we will create a template over/around your brows - this step is crucial to ensure the finished look is exactly what you desire. You will then ‘OK’ the shape and we will begin the treatment.

Once the first microblading treatment is complete, we will need you to follow all aftercare instructions and pop back for a touch-up about 4 weeks later. This is when we will discuss any changes you wish to make, discuss whether you are happy with the final colour, density, and so on. You can then have touch-ups over the following months - up to 24 months. Without any top ups in this time, you'll have to start afresh.

3. It will take about one month to see the true results

After your treatment, you may experience slight redness and swelling, although this doesn’t apply to everybody, as we all react in different ways. It’s important for the first few days to keep them hydrated. After roughly four days, you may see some scabbing or flaking, it’s crucial to avoid picking at this point. As tempting as it may be, picking these scabs/flakes can lead to pigment loss. Therefore, do whatever you need to do to stop yourself, even if that means sitting on your hands!

Your skin takes about 30 days to regenerate, once this time has passed, the appearance will be as close to the final result as possible. You’ll be able to wake up and go without the need to fill in those brows – hurrah!
